The Wheaton men’s golf team teed off this past week with a pair of top-five finishes.
Last weekend, the men traveled to Olivet College for the two day Lou Collins Memorial Tournament. Out of 16 teams, Wheaton finished third, including top-10 individual scores for senior Matt Adams and sophomore Robbie Bowles. Adams shot a 75 on Friday and a 73 on Saturday for a score of 148 while Bowles carded a 76 and a 73, 149 total. Junior Bennett Hollar shot a 152 over the weekend, sophomore Richard Moomjian shot 157, and sophomore Maclendon Aiken shot 169 to give Wheaton its two-day team score of 606. Owens Community College finished first in the tournament by shooting 588 as a team.
The second meet took place Tuesday at the Aurora Invitational at Aurora College. Wheaton finished fifth out of 12 teams with a team score of 632. Matt Adams once again was the top Wheaton golfer with a score of 154. Freshman Luke Grogger and Richard Moomjian finished second and third for Wheaton with scores of 157 and 159, respectively. Carthage teams took each of the top three places in the tournament, with the A team, B team and C team taking first, second and third. Elmhurst placed fourth.
As for Wheaton, they will return to action this weekend in the two day Tim Kopka Memorial Tournament in Dundee, Illinois.
